John Rudder Requiem
Today, September 27, is my father's birthday. He would have been 76 years old today, but he died suddenly 24 years ago. I was traveling abroad when it happened, and it was a very difficult time for me and my family. Trust in God and time are what have
helped me go on. Today, I remember him and dedicate this blog post to my students...
One of the most beautiful pieces I ever sang in choir was the Requiem by John Rudder. Rudder is an Englishman, and he has written the only Protestant Requiem that I know of.
As I understand it, a requiem is a composition that was performed at the death or memorial service of an important person, like a king or queen.
I invite you to listen to this deeply spiritual and beautiful music. It can bring you comfort, as it has for me.
Here are the parts of the piece:
1.
Requiem æternam
2. Out of the Deep
3. Pie Jesu
4. Agnus Dei
5. The Lord is My Shepherd
6. Lux æterna
